Biography

Background and Experience

Robin was raised in Tasmania, Australia and completed his apprenticeship at "The Zinc Company of Australia" in 1973.  Studies included Fitting, Machining and Welding along with 2 years of Diesel Mechanics" (night school) at the Hobart TAFE College.

He started off in smaller roles around his trained skills and a strong foundation as a fitter and turner.

From his time at Skilcraft he joined Hancock Plywoods P/L  where he was promoted through the ranks to 'Factory Manager'.  Later on  he  spearheaded the relocation of the production machinery to Ipswich ,Queensland and closure of a major site for the business.

After a lengthy career at Hancocks P/L, he founded Edge Grinding and Maintenance P/L and has grown it into a strong business while being very hands-on deck has mentored his staff to meet his vision.

  • 600 Machinery – Service Engineer – Repair and installation of machine tools/ Colchester,Sheraton metal lathes, Pacific milling
  • machines, Abroga Drill presses. Also, service and installation of Hiab cranes for the transport industry.
  • Skilcraft Engineering PTY.LTD – Fitzroy Victoria – Site work
    • Engells Foods – Food Machinery repairs and maintenance
    • Fabrication of steel tanks for the water treatment plant, Thompson Dam, Victoria
    • Stampco Australia – Meat and confectionary equipment – repairs and maintenance
    • Hellas Chocolates – Replacement of water heated chocolate delivery lines. Installation of chilled confectionary tables.
    • Hancock Plywoods – Keon Park, Victoria – repairs and maintenance
    • Hancocks were so impressed with Robins’s work that they brought him on as a Maintenance Supervisor at Keon Park
  • Hancocks – Maintenance Supervisor
    • Promoted to Production Engineer
    • Promoted to Factory Manager
    • In 1990, Relocated the Fabrication and Finishing lines from Keon Park (Victoria) to Ipswich (Queensland)
    • Full closure of operations, cleanup and restoration of the Keon Park (Victoria) site.
    • Relocated to Ipswich as Project/Services Manager
    • Robin was made responsible for significant upgrades and installation of plywood manufacturing equipment. Machinery was inspected and acquired by Robin in North America.  Relocation of Waterwide burner and large 6 deck veneer drying
    • machine from Beerwah Pine after shutdown of the Beerwah operation.
  • Proveneer P/L – 1993 – Factory Manager
    • Responsible for relocating and building a veneer-slicing operation from the ground up.
    • Responsible for veneer production and maintenance of plant and equipment
    • R&D and equipment acquisition performed during trips to Indiana USA
    • Reconditioned and re-engineered machinery from the early 1900s into current technology improving production output exponentially (variable speed and servo drives and other innovative solutions).
  • Edge Grinding and Maintenance – Founded 2004
